The president also wants an OK from http://www.obamastudentloanforgiveness.net Congress to deport more kids without delay. Some Democrats oppose a rush to deport children, though. “We’re not asking that they all get amnesty, but we do need a little humanity here,” said Rep. Lloyd Doggett (D-Texas). “There’s a reason we just don’t throw them back into the river or drive them back into the desert.” The White House blames the backlog on a Bush-era law protecting central American kids.

A main goal is to speed up the processing of arriving young immigrants to send back those who lack legal status. For most, the likely outcome will be a return home, White House officials told reporters on a conference call. Obama’s funding request also seeks $1.8 billion for the Department of Health and Human Services to provide appropriate care for unaccompanied children crossing the border. The officials said that money would allow the government to meet its legal and moral obligations for such youngsters now being crammed in overcrowded facilities in several states while awaiting processing. On Tuesday, the Pentagon said it was processing requests from HHS to house more minors and Defense Department spokesman Rear Adm.

Obama asks for $3.7 billion to address border crisis – Houston Chronicle

Rep. Henry Cuellar, Texas Democrat, said prior to news of the Obama- Perry meeting, he was worried Mr. Obamas decision not to visit the U.S.-Mexico border would become his Katrina moment, a reference to criticism of President George W. Obama, Perry to meet in Texas, talk border problems – Washington Times

Border Security I dont believe he particularly cares whether or not the border of the United States is secure, Perry said July 6 on ABCs This Week. In asking Congress for $3.7 billion, the administration is seeking to bolster efforts to contain the influx of unaccompanied, undocumented children crossing the border. The administration plans to increase detainment and boost court capacity to speed decisions, expand law enforcement and prosecution of criminal networks, seek greater cooperation with Central American countries and increase the amount of housing, care and transportation while migrant cases are judged. Most of the children crossing the border unaccompanied by a parent probably wont qualify for humanitarian relief and will be deported, Obamas spokesman said yesterday. Legal Basis Its unlikely that most of the kids who go through this process will qualify for humanitarian relief, which is to say that most of them will not have a legal basis, Earnest said. He said courts, in most cases, would rule that migrants dont have a legal reason to be in the U.S.

Obama to Meet Texas Governor Perry on Immigration Crisis – Bloomberg

Coburn: Obama immigration plan ‘wrong approach’ Obama offers meeting to Perry Perry to Obama: visit the border Critics, however, say the administration invited the problem by halting deportations of some young immigrants who came to the country illegally in past years. Funding request Obama’s emergency funding request is just over 10% of the $30 billion in proposed border security funding included in the Senate-passed immigration reform bill that House Republican leaders have stalled. A breakdown of the request, which requires approval from the deeply divided Congress, shows a broad approach by the administration to a problem that the critics say should have been anticipated. It seeks $1.6 billion for the Department of Homeland Security and the Department of Justice to bolster customs and border efforts as well as cracking down on smugglers, and $300 million for the State Department to help Mexico and Central American governments counter what officials called “misinformation” by smugglers about what immigrants will face on the journey to the U.S. border and once they arrive. A main goal is to speed up the processing of arriving young immigrants to send back those who lack legal status.
