Fears of export limitations from Ukraine, one of the largest exporters of wheat, have raised supply concerns and drawn attention to this commodity (read: Wheat ETF Surging on Ukraine Issues, Weather Outlook ). But things lately took a rapid turn as wheat fell over 9% over the past 10 days. The decline came after heavy showers in wheat growing areas such as western Nebraska, northeast Colorado, eastern Kansas and eastern Oklahoma that eased dry conditions last week. Abundant supply forecast by the USDA also affected the commodity.

Adjusting The ETF Retirement Portfolio – PowerShares CEF Income Composite Portfolio ETF (NYSEARCA:PCEF) | Seeking Alpha

Two much smaller products also operate in the Livestock space, being UBC (ETRACS CMCI Livestock Total Return ETN, Expense Ratio 0.65%) and LSTK (iPath Pure Beta Livestock ETN, Expense Ratio 0.75%), and these two funds only have $5.4 and $3 million in assets under management respectively, which mostly looks like seed capital. We do not see an ETF listed that specifically focuses on the Livestock sector as of yet, but another product that is worth mentioning is FUD (ETRACS CMCI Food Total Return ETN, Expense Ratio 0.65%). This product is not Livestock specific but also has exposure to other agricultural futures such as those of Wheat, Corn, Soybeans, Sugar, Cocoa, and so forth. Live Cattle and Lean Hogs make up about 13% of the overall basket in total in FUD. Generally it looks like there is a ton of room for asset growth and awareness in this space, not only among Livestock oriented funds but in this greater Agricultural Commodity space in that there are thirty different ETPs operating in the space, but the average fund AUM size (excluding the largest, DBA) is only about $31 million, and there are seventeen products toiling below the dreaded $10 million AUM mark currently in relative obscurity. iPath Dow Jones-UBS Livestock Total Return Sub-Index ETN For more information on Street One ETF research and ETF trade execution/liquidity services, contact Paul Weisbruch at pweisbruch@streetonefinancial.com .

Id instead make the more boring comparison to the London Congestion Charge but first lets examine Alloways warning. The observation is an astute one: Easy-to-trade ETFs are being built for difficult-to-trade assets like frontier-market stocks and leveraged loans. You can buy an ETF with the click of a button. You cant do the same with the exotic underlying assets.

I am still not sure I want a pure bond ETF in the portfolio yet.2 SPHD, on the other hand, consists exclusively of equities from the S&P 500 Low Volatility High Dividend Index. At 3.36%, its yield is quite a bit lower than PHB’s, but its total return YTD is a very impressive 8.73%. The fund’s expense ratio also beats PHB’s, coming in at 0.30%. SPHD would make a nice addition to a well-rounded portfolio, but its index tells the story of why it doesn’t make mine: it’s index overlaps that of SPLV, and it contains 50 holdings as opposed to SPLV’s 100.3 There’s safety in numbers , and SPLV’s larger body of holdings would seem to be more likely to resist volatility.

If trends incurrency ETFs continue, this would be the third consecutive yearof outflows. Foreign-exchange ETFs invest in a single currency or basketof currencies. The funds aim to replicate price movements in theforeign-exchange market by holding currencies either directly orthrough currency-denominated short-term debt instruments. U.S. Stocks End Lower

During that downtrend, shares of WLT have been making mostly lower highs and lower lows, which is bearish technical price action. That said, shares of WLT have started to rebound higher off that $7.07 low and it’s now quickly moving within range of triggering a big breakout trade. That trade will hit if WLT manages to take out some near-term overhead resistance at $8.14 to Thursday’s high of $8.18 with strong volume. Traders should now look for long-biased trades in WLT as long as its trending above its 52-week low of $7.07 and then once it sustains a move or close above those breakout levels with volume that hits near or above 6.85 million shares.
